Hi, I’m Matt.
I’m a passionate champion for the power of collaboration to achieve a brighter future for everyone. Working with business to solve development challenges, what USAID terms “Private Sector Engagement,” has been a key theme of my international development career.
My time with USAID started in the Bureau for Management, in an office that functions as internal consultants to drive greater operational performance across the Agency. This was a fantastic introduction to the organization, as my work required me to learn about virtually every Bureau and independent office across USAID. When the PSE Policy was announced in 2018, advancing PSE was also made an “Agency Priority Goal,” and I guided the team behind the Policy to help report on USAID’s progress to the White House.
That early introduction to PSE served me well when I took an opportunity to join USAID’s Mission to Armenia in the Economic Growth Office. I threw myself into work across the portfolio, with programming spanning the agriculture, tourism, and high tech sectors, water and energy management, and economic governance. This experience taught me first hand how collaborating with the private sector can unlock opportunities USAID could never achieve on its own. I helped forge partnerships with high tech companies, a wine distributor, and an online artisan retailer that allowed us to punch way above our weight and more effectively than traditional programming.
My on the ground experience in Armenia proved invaluable when I joined the Private Sector Engagement Hub in Washington, D.C. where I advanced key initiatives under PSE Modernize. My work has focused on transforming how USAID manages its relationships with the private sector. This ranged from developing a new Agency doctrine for relationship management, One USAID, coaching the Agency’s designated Global Relationship Managers for key corporate partners, and supporting the design and rollout of Compass, the Agency’s new CRM system.
